The flu bug and a happy 16th
Remember that cold flu I mentioned last week with my son Phillip? It got us all - except my Anna banana! She is one healthy kid. Aches and chills, fever, fatigue, pounding headache and all the fun cold symptoms which are still lingering. I think this bug has been through the entire school this month. I really need to open all the windows and get some fresh (cold) air in the house. Why not, it's a beautiful day today - 30 degrees and freezing rain...
At least Phillip got sick before his sweet 16 birthday and was healthy enough to celebrate this past weekend. Saturday he and Sarah went out and she gave him some great smelling cologne BVLGARI (good job Sarah) and a sweet card (he was all smiles). On Sunday he slept in, his older brothers called him and he had basketball practice and then he picked one of his favorite homemade dinners - Chicken drumsticks, mashed potatoes and cauliflower with Ben & Jerry's Phish Food ice cream to end his special day. Happy 16th Phildog :)

Look Ma, a swollen finger
So yesterday we make the drive all the way to Colchester (close to a 2 hour trek) to watch our sophmore son's basketball game. It was our first time there and we were told it would take an hour and 45 minutes tops to get there. We arrive almost 2 hours later to a game that is just about to start the second quarter - CRAP. We hike up the bleachers and find seats and scan the court and benches for Phillip. No Phillip. I look all around the gym and across the way I see a man talking to him and wrapping his right fingers and handing him an ice pack. Ends up he was in at the start of the game and 4 minutes later jammed his right index finger and was out the entire game with an ice pack. He was not happy. Oh well, they won so that was nice. Still going strong with only one lose this season :)
Better scoot - time to take the Christmas decorations and tree down :( I'd rather be sipping hot chocolate in front of a roaring fire and reading a good book.
Toodles, Paula
15 more days and counting...
OH MY. Am I even remotely close to being ready for the holidays...? Hell NO! I am usually a fairly organized mother of five, but hey, I've slipped behind this year. Oh, the holiday stress has taken over me and I have ANOTHER cold! I was planning to post a podcast this weekend, however, I do NOT have a voice (I do have a violent cough though), just no voice. So, here I am and I hope to post a What Did You Do All Day? podcast next week.
Since we are on the subject of holiday stress....here is a great site to check out for busy parents this season http://www.momready.com/ - Also, be sure to check out the article on teacher holiday gifts (we can't forget our wonderful teachers!).
Did I mention that I'm reading Running with Scissors...? Whoa now. Augusten had some childhood. I don't want to spoil his story (or the movie) but it is worth checking out for sure...
OK, I am off to do some online Christmas shopping...15 days and counting...........
I Have A Problem...
and it's called Cholesterol.
How the HELL did this happen to me?
Well, I'll tell you how - It's in my genes. It figures. Now my doctor tells me that I need to cut back even more on the eggs and bacon - WHAT?!! AND start an aerobics exercise program three to five days a week - or else. The only problem there is I have NO extra time in my schedule as it is so I guess I will need to cut time from my sleeping hours ( 6 hours to 5 1/2 hours a night) to exercise - or else.
The worry wart mom that I am, I'm already setting appointments to have my kids' blood drawn for the Cholesterol check, ya know, since it runs in the family - lucky me. The hubby likes to rub it in as his cholesterol is right where it should be and he eats eggs constantly...I don't want to hear it. However, the hubby did say that for Mother's Day he is going to get me a treadmill for walking so I can get some aerobic activity. Can't I just go shopping and walk the malls?
So, if you have not had your yearly physical and had "The Cholesterol Check" call your physician and have it checked out. It only takes a few minutes for the nurse to stick a needle in your arm and suck out a few tubes of blood and then you wait a couple weeks to hear the news...
Good luck. Maybe you will be lucky enough to get a brand new treadmill out of the deal ;)
